3 Year Old Program – Tuesday and Thursday
Our 3 Year Old Program is very social in the beginning. For many of our students this is their first time in a school setting. We begin the year stressing the importance of friendship. We practice sharing, being kind, taking turns and other social graces. We work hard learning our classroom routine and learning to be a good friend.
Our day starts with Circle Time. We pray, learning 'Jesus I love you' and the 'Guardian Angel Prayer'. We also learn a short version of the pledge. We discuss the calendar: practicing counting and singing the days of the week song. We talk about the weather and dress Freddie the Frog so he is ready for his day.
After a story, we transition into Religion. We love to learn about God through the God Made Me Series. Next is Center Time where students are free to pick where they want to play today. This is a very important time of day for us as we learn to be a member of a class. After a potty break and washing our hands, we have a healthy snack brought in by our snack helper.
While our friends finish snack and help wipe down the tables, we have some quiet time exploring books and puzzles. Our day ends with an activity focusing on our fine motor skills and some dancing or outside playtime for our gross motor skills. Our 3 year old program also goes on a field trip in the fall. A field trip is also planned in the spring.
4 Year Old Program – Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Our 4 Year Old Pre-Kindergarten Program is for students who will be going to kindergarten the following year. Our Pre-Kindergarten class is very busy. We devote most of our time to Kindergarten readiness. There are many skills we need to know and through our play and activities, we practice and master these skills.
Our day starts with Circle Time. We pray, learning The Our Father and The Hail Mary. We learn and say the Pledge of Allegiance. We discuss the calendar practicing our numbers, days of the week and the months of the year. We have a weather person and learn about the seasons. We discuss our letter of the week, read a story and focus on our theme from our Little Treasures Curriculum.
Our Religion Time follows, where we learn about God through the God Made the World Series. This is one of our favorite times of the day. Center Time is next; where students are free to pick from different centers in the room for more active play. This time is helping us learn many things. We have Dramatic Play, Math, Science, Social Studies, and other areas.
After a potty break and washing our hands, we have a healthy snack brought in by our snack helper. We talk about healthy eating choices and treats while we take turns and learn good table manners. While our friends finish snack and help wipe down the tables, we have some quiet time exploring writing, books and puzzles. Our day ends with an activity focusing on our fine motor skills and some dancing or outside playtime for our gross motor skills. We are blessed to use our school library, Gym, Art room and Science lab.
Our skill building for this age group includes many things; letter recognition and writing, number recognition and writing, practicing writing our first name and later our last name, number and numeral matching and upper and lower case matching. We try very hard to make sure our students are ready for kindergarten, but at the same time we want them to learn to love learning.
